Guide · How we design every panel
Flyer design that gets calls.
A flyer has about two seconds on the doormat to earn a place on the fridge. This is the checklist we use for every panel on the Local Run, and it works just as well for your own leaflet.
The checklist
- One offer, said plainly. "Free roof check this month" beats a list of every service you do. The reader should know what you want them to do before they have finished picking it up.
- Say who it is for and where. "Bourne End homeowners" or "Marlow dog owners" tells the right person this was meant for them.
- Make the headline the biggest thing on the page, not your logo. People care about the offer first and who you are second.
- Show real proof. A real photo of your work, a real review with a first name and street, how many years you have been trading. Never a stock photo of a smiling stranger.
- Give one clear way to respond, and make it easy: a phone number in large type, a QR code that opens a short page or form, and an offer code if you sell at a counter.
- Give them a reason to act now. A month, a season, a limited number of slots. Only if it is true.
- Print on heavy card. Thin paper feels like junk mail and goes in the recycling. Card feels worth keeping, and the flyer that is still on the fridge is the one that gets the call when the boiler goes.
- Leave white space. A crowded flyer gets skimmed past. Fewer words, bigger type.
- Check it at arm's length on the doormat. If you cannot read the headline and the offer from standing height, nobody else will.
Make it measurable
A flyer you cannot measure is a guess. Give every drop its own QR code and its own tracked phone number, so you can count scans and calls from that flyer alone, and ask every new customer where they heard of you. After two or three drops you will know which streets and which offers pay.
Then send it to the right doors
The best flyer still fails through the wrong letterboxes. Pick the streets that match the job: bigger and older homes for roofing and driveways, family streets for cafes and activities, new builds for landscaping and blinds. Then go back to the same streets again, because people need to see you more than once.
